NEW YORK (ASN NEWS USA)—
Nas is done watching from the sidelines. The Queensbridge legend posted a powerful statement on his official Instagram on Friday, saying he spent the past year observing the culture while making new music — and what he saw did not sit well with him.
Nas accused the music industry of forgetting and undercompensating the foundational artists who built it, writing that “the music game forgets or doesn’t compensate the foundation.” He urged artists to “take a stand as one.”
The statement traces a musical lineage from the Mississippi Delta to New Orleans to New York, invoking blues pioneer Robert Johnson as proof of how originators get neglected, ripped off, and written out of history. Nas aimed his message at fleeting trends and at a business he says rewards the middlemen while the creators bleed.
The post ends with a phrase that has the culture buzzing: “BLAK MUSIC 2026.” Nas did not say whether it is an album title, a cultural campaign, or a bigger initiative — which has only fueled speculation among fans and media.
The timing is no accident. Nas serves as an advisor to the Paid in Full Foundation, whose Hip Hop Grandmaster Awards take place October 24, giving his call for recognition and financial support for legacy artists real institutional weight behind it.
When Nas talks about paying the architects of the culture, the culture listens. Stay tuned to ASN News USA for updates on this developing story.
