KYIV (ASN NEWS USA)— Hours after President Trump announced his diesel deal with Vladimir Putin, Ukraine answered with drones.
A major fire erupted overnight at an oil terminal linked to Russia’s Novoshakhtinsk refinery in the Rostov region, following a suspected Ukrainian drone strike, according to Ukrainian media including the Kyiv Independent and Zn.ua. Kyiv has vowed to keep hitting Russian refineries, the Financial Times reported — a defiant stand even as Washington presses Ukraine to halt the campaign.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky blasted Trump’s deal as a “weak decision on the part of strong partners” and warned Russia would “repay” the concessions with “further terror and perfidy,” according to Ukrainian outlets. Zelensky also told Axios that Trump was “not fair and not honest,” calling the agreement a “happy birthday present for Putin.”
The timing is explosive: the strikes came while a Ukrainian delegation was in the United States discussing a resolution to the war. U.S. officials have repeatedly urged Kyiv to stop hitting Russian energy infrastructure, blaming the strikes for surging fuel prices — though Trump has also pointed to the war with Iran and the shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz.
The message from Kyiv is clear: the refinery campaign isn’t stopping.
