ASN NEWS USA — SPECIAL REPORT
VANDALIA, OHIO (ASN NEWS USA)— President Donald Trump returns to Ohio tonight, one month before voters decide races that could shape the rest of his term. He’ll headline a rally at Butler High School in the Dayton suburb of Vandalia, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and Trump scheduled to take the stage at 7 p.m., according to the Republican National Committee.
Senator Jon Husted, R-Ohio, and other GOP politicians are expected to join him. The stakes are real: Ohio voters will choose a new governor and decide a nationally-watched Senate race between Husted and former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown. Husted was appointed by Governor Mike DeWine after JD Vance became vice president in 2025; the winner on November 3 serves the final two years of Vance’s term.
The governor’s race is on the ballot too, pitting Republican Vivek Ramaswamy against Democrat Dr. Amy Acton.
Why Trump is sweating. Ohio used to be his fortress — he won the state all three times he was on the ballot. But polls suggest the ground is shifting. A new Suffolk University/USA TODAY Ohio Network survey puts Trump’s approval in Ohio at just 35% among likely voters, with voters worried about high gas prices and the economy. A Marist poll cited by Gray DC shows Brown leading Husted by 8 points.
Trump’s Ohio stop is part of a 32-day rally series hitting red states where Republicans now face headwinds, including Iowa, Florida, Alaska, and Nebraska.
The bottom line: One month out from the midterms, both parties are flooding Ohio with money and attention. Tonight’s rally is Trump’s bet that he can still carry the state that was once his symbol of success. We’ll see if the crowd — and the polls — agree.
