ASN NEWS USA — NEWS FLASH
CHICAGO (ASN NEWS USA)— If you’re flying today, brace yourself. The chaos in America’s skies isn’t over — it’s day two. On October 3, 3,621 flights were delayed and 169 were canceled nationwide, as the fallout from Texas thunderstorms keeps rippling through the entire system.
Dallas-Fort Worth is still ground zero: 389 delays and 27 cancellations. Chicago O’Hare got hit too, with 290 delays and 23 cancellations. Boston Logan saw 247 delays and 6 cancellations. Yesterday was even worse — 4,115 delays and 433 cancellations as the storms hammered Texas.
**What’s behind it.** Three things are colliding at once. First, the weather: remnants of Hurricane Polo plus moisture from the Gulf triggered thunderstorms across Texas, and the FAA put ground delays in place. Orlando faced its own ground stop for active thunderstorms, and low clouds at San Francisco meant delays averaging 69 minutes.
Second, construction. Boston Logan and Austin-Bergstrom both have runway work happening, cutting capacity and forcing ground delays averaging over an hour — 65 minutes at Boston, 68 at Austin.
Third, the cascade effect. When storms ground planes yesterday, aircraft ended up in the wrong cities and crews ran out of legal rest time. Today’s schedule is still cleaning up yesterday’s mess.
**What this means for you.** Check your airline’s app before heading to the airport. Expect delays of 45 to 75 minutes on average, and avoid tight connections. Recovery is expected over the next day or two — but for now, patience is the only boarding pass that matters.
