DETROIT (ASN NEWS USA)— Thanksgiving in Detroit just got a whole lot louder. The Wu-Tang Clan will headline the Detroit Lions’ Thanksgiving halftime show, and the pick came straight from Eminem himself.
The Lions announced Sunday, November 1, that the legendary Staten Island crew will take the stage at Ford Field on Thursday, November 26, when Detroit hosts the Chicago Bears in the 87th annual Thanksgiving Day Classic. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET, and the game airs nationally on CBS. Actor and singer Antonio Cipriano will perform the national anthem.
Eminem and Rosenberg behind the booking
This is the second year of a multi-year partnership in which Detroit native Eminem and his longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg, serve as executive producers of the halftime show and help select the performers. Rosenberg said it plainly: “We often like to do things that are both exciting and unexpected. A Wu-Tang Clan Thanksgiving performance in Detroit certainly fits that description!”
Last year, the duo booked Jack White, with Eminem himself making a surprise appearance. This year, they went straight to hip-hop royalty.
A victory lap for the Clan
The timing could not be bigger. Wu-Tang arrives in Detroit fresh off its global farewell tour, Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber, and less than two weeks after its scheduled induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 14. The living members — RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, U-God, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, and Cappadonna — are set to share the stage.
For Detroit, this is more than a halftime show. It is a hometown hero putting his stamp on the city’s biggest football day — and proof that the Lions’ Thanksgiving game has become a stage for culture, not just football.
