Poll: 44% Say Their Midterm Vote Is Against Trump — and Trump Says He’ll Accept Results “If They’re Honest”

ASN NEWS USA — NEWS FLASH

WASHINGTON (ASN NEWS USA)— With less than a week to go before the midterm elections, a new national poll shows President Donald Trump facing a steep climb at the ballot box: far more voters say they plan to vote against him than in support of him.

According to a Marist/NPR/PBS News poll released Tuesday, October 27, 44% of likely voters said their November vote will be a vote against Trump, compared with 21% who said they will vote to support him. The divide is especially wide among independents, who are more than three times as likely to say they are voting against Trump as they are to say they are voting in support of him.

Democrats also maintain an advantage in the generic congressional ballot, leading Republicans by 8 percentage points in the poll — another sign that dissatisfaction with the president could weigh on GOP candidates heading into Election Day.

What voters say matters most

The poll found the cost of living is voters’ top issue at 34%, narrowly ahead of preserving democracy at 33%. Immigration followed at 12%, while foreign policy and health care each drew 5%. The financial strain is personal for many: 38% said their finances have gotten worse over the past year, while 44% said they have stayed about the same.

“If they’re honest elections”

Asked by reporters on October 27 whether he will respect the election results regardless of the outcome, Trump answered: “I will if they’re honest elections.” He acknowledged Republicans could lose control of both chambers of Congress, saying he would use his veto pen often under such a scenario and find a way to work out deals. “I hope that that won’t be the case, but if it is, that’s happened before with many presidents,” he said.

The remarks come as polling continues to point to a possible Democratic wave, with Democrats widely favored to win control of the House and holding multiple viable paths to the Senate. Trump has spent much of his second term casting doubt about the integrity of voting in the United States, and in recent weeks has regularly accused Democrats of cheating without presenting evidence.

The midterms are November 3. The question now is not just who wins — it is whether the loser accepts it.
