WASHINGTON (ASN NEWS USA)— The U.S. military hit another alleged narco boat in the Caribbean on Sunday, killing four people aboard — the 71st lethal strike in the Trump administration’s campaign against suspected drug traffickers, according to the independent tally kept by Just Security.
U.S. Southern Command announced the operation on X, saying Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere “executed a lethal, kinetic strike on a go-fast vessel operating along established narco-trafficking routes in the Caribbean.” The military said “confirmed intelligence revealed the vessel’s active involvement in narco-trafficking,” calling the four dead “narco-terrorists.” It released video showing the boat destroyed in an explosion. The military provided no evidence to back up the trafficking claim — and has refused to release the identities of those killed in the strikes.
The numbers keep climbing. Reuters puts the campaign’s death toll above 220 since the strikes began in September 2025; independent trackers count more than 230 killed, with just three known survivors.
The legal questions keep climbing too. Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and independent UN experts have called the strikes unlawful extrajudicial killings, and the ACLU has called the administration’s claims “unsubstantiated, fear-mongering claims.” Even Sen. Rand Paul, a Republican, has raised concerns about killing people without due process. On September 30, a federal judge ordered the administration to hand over its legal memo justifying the strikes for private court review.
